For the second consecutive day, the breakaway proved too much for the peloton, with one rider reaching the finish alone. Tim Wellens delivered yet another stage win for UAE Team Emirates XRG, arriving in Carcassonne in 3:34:09, almost three miles ahead of the yellow jersey group. The victory helped his colleagues close the gap on Team Visma | Lease a Bike in the group classification. Discover how the day played out in our 2025 Tour de France stage 15 report below.
Another hilly stage and another man from a “low country” reaches the line first. This time it was Belgian, Tim Wellens, in Carcassonne, completing a treble of Grand Tour stage victories. It’s the first Tour de France scalp for the 34-year-old, who finished 1:28 ahead of his compatriot Victor Campanaerts.
General Classification
It was an uneventful day in the GC race, except for a crash earlier on that saw Jonas Vingegaard and Florian Lipowitz fall. Tadej Pogačar and his UAE teammates slowed the pace of the peloton to allow his yellow jersey rivals a chance to get back into the pack. This tactic allowed the attackers to march on without impacting the top of the GC standings.
King of the Mountains
Frenchman Lenny Martinez will wear the polka dot for another day, when stage 16 sets off from Montpellier. He still holds an eight-point lead over Pogi, keeping his nation’s hopes of a Tour jersey alive.
Points Classification
Mathieu van der Poel reached the intermediate sprint first to claim 20 points and close the gap on Pogačar in second in the green jersey contest. Jonathan Milan still leads the points classification by 28 points.
Youth Classification
Florian Lipowitz enters the second rest day of the Tour holding a 1:25-second cushion over Oscar Onley in the youth classification. The German is also placed in third in the GC, one place ahead of his young British rival.
