Aaron Reutzel won Monday’s SugarBee Apple Showdown on the River at Douglas County Dirtrack in Roseburg, Oregon, and he did it in his debut at the track. Reutzel drove the Ridge & Sons Racing No. 87 car and controlled the race from the start, leading all 35 laps. A Lap 1 wreck with front-row starter Tyler Courtney changed the shape of the feature before the first lap was officially complete, but Reutzel kept the lead and never looked back.

That move matters because the gap was built over a long season, and every win changes the pressure at the top of the standings. Reutzel did more than collect a feature trophy. Abreu finished fifth in the race, so the points picture changed even as the race winner came from the front and stayed there. Courtney’s night never recovered from the Lap 1 trouble and he finished 15th. The title race also got tighter, with Reutzel now 36 points behind Abreu and the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 24 team.
Monday’s win also carried the weight of a track debut, which made the performance stand out on its own. Reutzel arrived at Douglas County Dirtrack without prior laps at the venue and still delivered a wire-to-wire result. He handled the opening wreck, the long run and the flat tire at the finish without giving up the lead.
