Alonso leads FP2
CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team rider David Alonso grabbed the top spot in Moto2 Free Practice 2 on Saturday morning at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, turning a best lap of 1 minute, 32.187 seconds in dry conditions. The time put Alonso ahead of Senna Agius, Alex Escrig, Manuel Gonzalez and Izan Guevara, who filled the next four places on a session timesheet that stayed tight at the front. Alonso had already shown speed at the 4.30-kilometer track in Friday morning practice, when he placed fifth in Free Practice 1, and he improved enough a day later to set the benchmark in the second session. The practice order remained provisional after the session, but Alonso left Saturday morning with the fastest lap and the clearest headline from the second free practice run.
Guevara leads FP1
Friday morning belonged to Izan Guevara, who topped Moto2 World Championship Free Practice 1 at the same circuit with a lap of 1 minute, 32.702 seconds. Guevara led 28 riders in the session and edged Escrig by 0.049 seconds, with Gonzalez third at 1:32.830, Agius fourth at 1:32.955 and Alonso fifth at 1:33.015. That front group set the early standard for the weekend and kept the pace close from the start. Escrig, Gonzalez and Agius all carried their speed into Saturday, when they stayed inside the top four again in a different order. Alonso’s jump from fifth in the first session to first in the second showed how quickly the pace changed on the Mandalika surface. Guevara’s opening-session run still stood as the first benchmark of the weekend and gave him a place at the top of the Friday timesheet.
Roberts gains pace
American rider Joe Roberts kept himself in the mix across both sessions, finishing 17th in Free Practice 1 with a best lap of 1:33.615 on his OnlyFans American Racing Team Kalex and then improving to 12th in Free Practice 2 with a 1:32.849. His move from Friday to Saturday put him inside the top dozen in the more competitive of the two morning sessions and kept him within range of the leaders on a track where the margins stayed small. Mandalika’s 4.30-kilometer layout again asked riders to find speed through a demanding lap, and the dry conditions allowed times to fall as the track evolved. The result was a pair of practice sessions that produced two different pacesetters, Guevara on Friday and Alonso on Saturday, with Escrig, Gonzalez and Agius trading positions just behind them. With both sessions still listed as provisional, the early form sheet showed a field that remained tightly grouped and still searching for the final edge before the next runs.
