Antonelli helmet tribute
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli unveiled a special Valentino Rossi-inspired helmet for his home Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The design adapted the tricolor look Rossi wore to victory at Mugello in 2002 and incorporated the Italian flag. Aldo Drudi of Drudi Performance created the helmet, and Rossi approved the tribute. Antonelli said racing at home with special colors had been a personal dream, and he called it a special wish to race with a helmet inspired by Rossi’s. He said he was honored by the collaboration, thanked Rossi for the opportunity to use the tribute helmet and hoped fans would like it when they see it on track.

Monza grid penalty
The helmet arrived with a setback attached. Antonelli was set to start from the back of the grid because of an engine penalty for exceeding his 2026 power unit allocation. That changed the tone of the weekend before the race even began, but Antonelli said the drop to last could also help him. He said it might ease pressure and give him a chance to try a different approach during the weekend. He still looked forward to the race and called it a big opportunity. The championship picture added another layer to the story. Antonelli entered the weekend leading Mercedes teammate George Russell and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton by 59 points in the world championship. That margin kept him in strong position even with the penalty hanging over his home event, and it made the Monza weekend a mix of celebration and challenge. The tribute helmet gave him one headline. The grid drop gave him another.
