Audi unveils Hinwil F1 campus for works team

NXTbets Pro | Published On: October 1, 2026

Audi campus plan

Audi is building a new Formula 1 campus in Hinwil, Switzerland, and the project puts the team deeper into the place that has long served as the core of its racing operation. The new site sits less than one kilometer from the team’s current headquarters, keeping the work close to the people and processes already in place. Audi has already put some parts of the campus into use, giving the project an early operational foothold before the full buildout is finished. The move gives Audi a more modern base for its works team and extends a long-term push to shape the Formula 1 effort around Hinwil rather than treat the location as a temporary stop. That matters because the site is more than a construction project. It is part of how Audi wants the team to function day to day, from engineering and design to the broader support structure that keeps a Formula 1 program moving. Audi has already fully rebranded Sauber under its own name, and the campus project gives that change a physical home. The brand shift is complete in name, and the new campus adds the kind of infrastructure that matches the company’s ambitions on track.

Hinwil site strategy

Audi does not plan to walk away from the current Hinwil site. It plans to redevelop that location into the team’s manufacturing center and wind tunnel operation, which keeps key technical work in the same Swiss hub. That approach turns the existing base into a specialized production and testing site while the new campus expands the overall footprint. The setup also allows Audi to keep the work more organized across multiple locations. Bicester remains part of the structure, with the technical center and offices staying in place, and power unit development and assembly will continue in Neuberg. The result is a wider network, but one with Hinwil at its center. Audi’s gradual takeover of the team ahead of its works Formula 1 debut made that direction clear, and the new campus builds on it. Instead of spreading the operation thin, Audi is aligning the major pieces around defined jobs for each location. Hinwil handles the heart of the project. Bicester supports the technical side. Neuberg stays tied to the power unit. That kind of structure gives Audi a cleaner operating model as it moves deeper into works-team territory and settles the group into the demands of Formula 1.

Talent and growth

Mattia Binotto said the campus is designed to help Audi attract and retain top talent, and that goal runs through the entire project. Formula 1 teams compete for engineers, designers, mechanics and specialists, and the working environment matters as much as the machinery. Binotto said the new campus is meant to improve that environment, which points to a workplace built for long-term performance as well as day-to-day efficiency. That is a practical target for a team that is still shaping its identity under the Audi banner. A stronger campus can help with recruitment, retention and collaboration, especially when the work spans multiple sites and technical disciplines. Audi’s decision to build around Hinwil also carries historical weight for the project, even without needing to lean on nostalgia. The company is tying its future Formula 1 operation to a place that has already played a central role in the team’s development and is now being expanded for the next phase. The campus is not just about new buildings. It is about giving the team a base that fits a works operation, supports the staff who build it and creates a platform for the next stage of Audi’s Formula 1 program.
