Fernandez wins at Silverstone
Raul Fernandez won the British Grand Prix at Silverstone for Trackhouse Aprilia and controlled the race from the front after taking the lead in the first corner. He led every lap and turned a strong start into a clear victory for Aprilia, which completed a 1-2-3 finish at the circuit. Jorge Martin finished second after starting from pole position and recovering from a poor launch, while Marco Bezzecchi took third to give Aprilia the full podium. The result also marked Aprilia’s seventh MotoGP win of the year and came one day after Fernandez crashed in the Sprint and after Trackhouse announced a two-year contract extension for him. Only 16 of 23 MotoGP starters finished the race, a sign of how quickly the event broke apart once the opening laps settled.
Aprilia sweep and standings
Martin left Silverstone with his championship lead increased to 31 points over Bezzecchi, a margin built even as he salvaged second after giving up the advantage at the start. Bezzecchi’s podium ended his drought and gave him his seventh podium of the season, another step in a strong campaign for the Italian and for Aprilia across the weekend. Qualifying had already set up the team for a big day, with Martin on pole, Fernandez second by 0.021 seconds and Ai Ogura third in an all-Aprilia front row. Ogura lost ground at the start, then crashed out of the grand prix, leaving Aprilia’s podium sweep to Fernandez, Martin and Bezzecchi.
