Kyle Busch Celebration of Life Set for Charlotte Motor Speedway

Death of Busch

Busch died from hemorrhagic shock and disseminated intravascular coagulation. His death certificate said complications from bacterial pneumonia led to sepsis. Busch’s death prompted tributes across the sport and public remembrances focused on his impact in and out of the car.

Charlotte tribute

Charlotte Motor Speedway planned a free Celebration of Life for Busch after the Truck Series race, with FS1 set to air live coverage. The program was meant to bring the NASCAR community together through stories, memories and tributes, and it centered on both family and fellow competitors. Samantha Busch was set to take part, along with Joe Gibbs, Christopher Bell, Noah Gragson, Daniel Suarez, Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon. The remembrance also was set to include memories from Samantha Busch, Kurt Busch, Gibbs, Larson and Bell. The track planned a display of 10 of Busch’s race cars and a drone show as part of the tribute. The night was set to end with a performance by Cole Swindell.

Las Vegas tribute

Las Vegas honored Busch throughout NASCAR weekend after his death. Memorial Rock was unveiled in his honor, and roads were renamed Rowdy Road and Busch Brothers Drive. Las Vegas Motor Speedway added “Forever Rowdy” signage and displayed a tribute wall, Busch’s 2019 Cup championship trophy and his M&M’s No. 18 Toyota. A black No. 8 sat in the infield, and the weekend included a silent Lap 8 tribute. The Kyle Busch Classic took place at the Bullring, and Kurt Busch drove the pace car during the NASCAR weekend tributes. Kurt Busch said he appreciated the tributes and that NASCAR community events can help bring closure. Samantha Busch said it was difficult to be back at Las Vegas Motor Speedway because it was filled with memories of Busch, and she thanked supporters who honored him and backed their son Brexton. In a post, Samantha Busch wrote, “grief is just love with nowhere to go.” Her post also included a photo of her daughter at a memorial stone bearing Busch’s name and a photo of her children watching a rainbow at sunset.
