McFadden Won Tuscarora 50 After Rebounding From Early Crashes

McFadden rebounded
James McFadden turned a difficult week into a major payday at Port Royal Speedway, winning the 59th annual Tuscarora 50 and collecting $59,000 after starting 11th in the feature. The victory came after two costly crashes earlier in the week, and McFadden answered with a run that put him at the front when the race reached its decisive stretch. He beat Tanner Holmes to the line by 1.907 seconds, and the result gave McFadden his first win at Port Royal in his 36th attempt. It also marked his second victory of the season and the fifth career Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing win for the driver. McFadden had to work through the field to get there, but once he moved forward, he put himself in position to control the race and finish the job.
Lap 20 move
The key pass came on Lap 20, when McFadden got around Holmes for the lead. From there, he led the final 25 laps and never gave the front back. That stretch defined the race, since McFadden had begun far enough back that every move mattered, and Holmes had done enough early to hold the top spot until McFadden arrived. Once McFadden took over, the rest of the lead group had to chase. Holmes stayed closest and finished second. Brent Marks crossed the line third, Troy Wagaman Jr. was fourth and Rico Abreu finished fifth. The finishing order showed how strong the front of the field remained behind McFadden, but the race belonged to the driver who made the late move and then protected it over the closing laps. His drive from 11th to first gave the Tuscarora 50 its defining story and turned the middle of the race into the point where the outcome changed.

The win also gave Macri Motorsports its second Tuscarora 50 title, adding another victory to the team’s record at Port Royal Speedway. For McFadden, the result marked a rebound from the two earlier crashes. With the win in hand, McFadden left Port Royal with the Tuscarora 50 title and a top-five result that also included Holmes, Marks, Wagaman Jr. and Abreu.
