Lucas is expected to race the 450SMX class, while Sacha is expected to stay on a 250cc bike in the 250SMX class. Lucas’ 2027 program is set to include Monster Energy AMA Supercross and the AMA Pro Motocross Championship before the SMX Playoffs. The scheduling of East and West racing for the brothers has not yet been decided. KTM said the agreement gives the brothers a chance to pursue new goals in their careers, and that framing matches the way both riders have approached the next step. Their move is less a surprise than the next stage of a plan that has been building through their Grand Prix results and their brief time on American tracks this summer.

Lucas Coenen arrives with momentum built across two strong campaigns in MXGP and on the international stage. He finished second in MXGP in 2025 as a rookie, a run that showed how quickly he adapted to the class. He also became the youngest-ever winner of a premier class Grand Prix, a milestone that marked him as one of the most advanced young riders in the sport. Those results help explain why KTM expects him to step into the 450SMX class when he makes the full-time transition. His U.S. sample already has some value, too. The brothers made brief Pro Motocross appearances at Thunder Valley and Southwick this summer, and Lucas showed pace in both starts. He finished second in the 450 Class at Thunder Valley, then crashed at Southwick. Even with that limited time on American tracks, the speed was there. His 2027 path is already mapped out around the biggest U.S. series. Monster Energy AMA Supercross and the AMA Pro Motocross Championship sit ahead of the SMX Playoffs, giving him a direct route into the full SuperMotocross program. Sacha Coenen heads into the same move with a different track record and the same opportunity. He has won at least one Grand Prix in each of the past three seasons, a steady run that shows he can deliver at the top level year after year. He also remains in MX2 title contention after holding the red plate this season, which keeps him in the center of the championship picture as the transfer to the U.S. approaches. KTM expects him to stay on a 250cc bike in the 250SMX class, so his American move keeps him in the category where he has built most of his Grand Prix success. His brief Pro Motocross starts this summer added another layer to the resume. He finished fourth at Thunder Valley, then won a moto at Southwick despite a broken collarbone. That result stood out because it came in a short cameo, not over a full championship run. It also fit the pattern of a rider who keeps producing results even when the circumstances are far from ideal. Like his brother, Sacha called the move a long-term goal. Taken together, the deal gives both twins a clear path from MXGP into AMA SuperMotocross, and it gives KTM a pair of young riders whose careers are still on the rise.
