Cummins rallies at 4-Crown
Kyle Cummins outdueled Justin Grant to win the 4-Crown Nationals Presented by NKTELCO at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, and claim the first 4-Crown Nationals victory of his career. Cummins started third in the feature, took the lead on lap 7 and handled a late challenge before winning by 0.778 seconds. The victory was worth $15,000 and gave him his 11th USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship win of the season and the 41st USAC National Sprint Car win of his career.
The race turned into a long test of patience and control. Grant briefly passed Cummins for the lead on lap 26, but a caution wiped out the move and put Cummins back in front. From there, he closed it out through a 30-lap feature that included multiple crashes and red flags. Gunnar Setser and Cale Coons both flipped in the race.
Grant finished second, Jake Swanson took third and Mitchel Moles placed fourth. The win also moved Cummins into a tie for 10th on the series’ all-time wins list with Bryan Clauson. It was the kind of hard-earned result that matched the pace of the race itself, with Cummins getting the jump early, losing it for a moment and taking it right back when the caution flew.
Danner dominated Thursday
Briggs Danner won the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship feature at Eldora Speedway. He led all 30 laps and beat Brady Bacon by 0.656 seconds. The win was Danner’s second career USAC victory at Eldora, his fifth USAC series win of the season and the 12th series victory of his career.
Danner never gave the lead away. He set the tone early, stayed out front for the full distance and left Bacon to chase the rest of the way. The result added another strong Eldora line to his record and gave him another seasonal mark in a year that has already produced five series wins.
The victory also showed how tight the top end of the series has become. Danner’s margin over Bacon was less than a second, but his control of the race made the distance feel larger than the final number. With the track producing speed and speed producing pressure, Danner kept the race in his hands from green to checkered.
Eldora records
Eldora produced two feature winners. It also produced speed records in qualifying and the support events. Justin Grant set a track qualifying record with a 14.979-second lap. Cale Coons then added an eight-lap heat race record, and Gunnar Setser followed with a 12-lap semi-feature record. Those marks added context to the two feature results.
The records added another layer to the event. Grant’s qualifying mark, Coons’ heat record and Setser’s semi-feature record showed the pace at Eldora before the feature results. Once the mains started, that pace turned into a fight for track position, especially in the 30-lap race won by Cummins.
The two feature winners gave the event a clear top line. Danner led every lap of Thursday’s USAC feature, and Cummins answered in the 4-Crown Nationals with his first victory there. Around them, the records from Grant, Coons and Setser added context to the Eldora results, where speed and caution flags shaped the final results.
