Danner wins at Winchester
Briggs Danner turned a pole start into a wire-to-wire victory in the USAC Silver Crown Championship race at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana, on Sunday. He led all 100 laps in the 34th Rich Vogler Classic and controlled the field from the front the entire way. Danner also set the fast qualifying time at 14.972 seconds, then backed it up with a clean run in the race. The win gave him a complete weekend at Winchester and put his name on one of the series’ top events of the season.
Winchester results
Dakoda Armstrong finished second behind Danner, with C.J. Leary third, Justin Grant fourth and Mario Clouser fifth. Brian Tyler made the biggest move of the day and earned hard-charger honors after climbing from 11th to sixth. The front of the field stayed tight behind Danner, but none of the challengers could get past the pole sitter once the race settled in. The result gave the event a clear order at the finish, with the top five all taking their spots after a long run at the front of the track.
Points race
Leary left Winchester with the lead in the USAC Silver Crown standings at 348 points. Grant held second with 312 points, and Clouser sat third with 285. The result tightened the shape of the championship picture among the top contenders, even as Danner added a major race win to his season. The series now turns to Iowa Speedway, where the next USAC Silver Crown race is scheduled for August 8.
