Kasey Kahne opened the HVAC Distributors Morgan Cup weekend at Williams Grove Speedway with his first World of Outlaws victory, driving the No. 39M for Macri Motorsports as a fill-in for the injured Anthony Macri. Kahne reached Victory Lane 10,364 days after his World of Outlaws debut on Aug. 22, 1997, becoming the 156th different World of Outlaws winner and the third driver from Washington to win in the series. Friday was only the third night Kahne and Macri Motorsports had raced together; Kahne fended off an early charge from David Gravel and defeated Sheldon Haudenschild in a late duel to take the checkered flag. Gravel finished third, Chase Dietz fourth and Troy Wagaman Jr. fifth. The win was Macri Motorsports’ 10th World of Outlaws triumph and the team’s first series victory with a driver other than Anthony Macri. Gravel’s third-place finish slightly increased his points lead over Carson Macedo.

David Gravel won the 30-lap Morgan Cup finale, passing polesitter Kahne on the opening lap and leading green-to-checkered to claim the $20,000 winner’s prize. The victory was Gravel’s 125th World of Outlaws series win and his 10th career victory at Williams Grove. Justin Whittall finished second for his best World of Outlaws result, Troy Wagaman Jr. was third, Sheldon Haudenschild fourth and Kahne fifth. Gravel credited morning rain for creating high-track grip that helped the race run uninterrupted. The result wrested the Morgan Cup trophy from the Pennsylvania Posse and gave Big Game Motorsports its fifth victory this season, tying the team with Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and Roth Motorsports for the season lead. The weekend reinforced Gravel’s momentum in the championship battle and tightened the season points race among the top teams.
