With Lewis moving to Ferrari the Italians no longer needed the services of Carlos Sainz, the Spaniard relocating to Williams for 2025.

McLaren Mercedes: Lando Norris, Oscar Pastri

British outfit McLaren is sticking to a winning formula with no changes to its roster, which claimed the 2024 Constructor title. Lando Norris steers the team after finishing runner-up in the drivers’ standings last year while Oscar Piastri will be looking for a podium place at the end of this season.

Norris is the pre-season favorite for the title. The young Brit was sensational last year, finishing outside the top 10 once.

Ferrari: Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc

Marinello has called in the cavalry for 2025, drafting the joint leader for most F1 driver titles, Lewis Hamilton. The Italian team is hunting their first constructors in 17 years. The “Prancing Horse” came close last year, falling fourteen points shy of McLaren.

While Lewis will receive the lion’s share of attention, Charles Leclerc lines up on the grid in phenomenal form. The Monegasque driver has finished on the podium in two of the last three driver championships, pitting Ferrari among the teams to beat in 2025.

Red Bull Racing: Max Verstappen, Liam Lawson

Red Bull fields the driver everyone is working to stop, Max Verstappen. The Dutchman is vying for his fifth consecutive title in 2025, but his mechanics have work to do in the off-season. His car wasn’t perfect last year and he still won nine races and the championship, including an epic comeback in Brazil.

Max was often the sole points contributor to the team last year, with Sergio Perez delivering underwhelming results. This forced Red Bull to secure a new partner for Verstappen in the form of an inexperienced Kiwi named Liam Lawson. The youngster was a backup driver at Racing Bulls and in eleven races has never finished better than ninth.

Mercedes: George Russell, Andrea Kimi Antonelli

Mercedes welcomes rising superstar Andrea Kimi Antonelli to the paddock this year. The German outfit was disappointed with their performance in 2024. Traction issues hampered the team’s ability to consistently compete, leaving mechanics and drivers frustrated.

George Russell completed last season as the sixth-best driver, boasting two wins. Although still young, George will need to step up and be a mentor for Antonelli who has blasted through the ranks, finishing sixth in last year’s F2 series at 18. Antonelli finished behind fellow F1 rookies Gabriel Bortoleto and Isack Hadjar, who have a couple of years on the teenager.

Aston Martin: Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll

One of only two teams to retain their drivers from 2024, Aston Martin is backing continuity. Double F1 title holder Fernando Alonso continues to work alongside Lance Stroll, who had a rocky season. His best performance was sixth in Australia.

Fernando also endured a tough outing last year, a fifth in Saudi Arabia, his best race. The duo have the skills to challenge for podiums, but Aston Martin cars have struggled to keep up in recent seasons.

Alpine: Pierre Gasly, Jack Doohan

Pierre Gasly struggled to break into the top five for most of the previous campaign, but that changed in Brazil. In one of the wettest races in recent memory, the Frenchman held his nerve to earn a podium place behind Max Verstappen and then teammate Esteban Ocon.

Youthful Australian Jack Doohan partners with Gasly in 2025, replacing the outgoing Ocon. Doohan made his F1 debut at the 2024 Abu Dhabi grand prix where he finished fifteenth.

Haas: Esteban Ocon, Oliver Bearman

Fans will be familiar with Oliver Bearman, who stood in as a backup driver for Ferrari and Haas in 2024. The teenager has secured a permanent contract with Haas, joining the experienced Esteban Ocon at the North Carolina factory.

Ocon is also new to the American team, after leaving Alpine at the end of last season. While Esteban will wish to forget last season, he can take some confidence into the new year with his superb driving in horrendous conditions at Interlagos. The Frenchman drove away from Brazil with a runner-up finish, his best of the season.

Racing Bulls: Yuki Tsunoda, Isack Hadjar

Yuki Tsunoda continues with Racing Bulls, despite being shortlisted for the Red Bull job. The Japanese racer just lost out to Liam Lawson, who produced marginally faster lap times and showed greater mental strength on the simulator and the track.

Tsunoda finished seventh three times in 2024, his best result for the season. New blood is injected into the team in 2025 in the form of Isack Hadjar from France. Hadjar has never lined up on the F1 grid, but he excelled in F2, finishing runner-up in the title race. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to the big leagues.

Williams: Alex Albon, Carlos Sainz

Williams engineers will be hoping for a quieter campaign after working overtime last year to fix damaged vehicles. The team had several unlucky results between Sargeant and Albon, but that seemed to change initially with the introduction of Franco Colapinto.

The young Argentine impressed in a few races but showed he has a lot to learn after crashing out in three of his last four starts. Williams sticks with the experienced Albon and adds former Ferrari star Carlos Sainz to the garage. This is the strongest team that Williams could have put together.

Sauber: Nico Hulkenberg, Gabriel Bortoleto

Sauber has submitted a totally different lineup for the upcoming year, welcoming veteran Nico Hulkenberg and rookie Gabriel Bortoleto. Despite navigating the rear wing, tire issues, and communication failures at Haas, the German still managed ten top-ten results last season.

Hulkenberg’s teammate Gabriel Bortoleto is creating hype as he enters his rookie Formula One season. The Brazilian dominated the Formula 2 standings in 2024, which catapulted him into the spotlight of multiple F1 teams, Sauber has won the race for the young star’s signature and will work to avoid receiving a second wooden spoon in the constructor’s.

F1 is a cutthroat game, and at the end of every season, there are winners and losers. The winners are those who retain their contracts or get promoted to the big leagues, unfortunately, we must say goodbye to some popular figures.

Valtteri Bottas is among the most loved drivers who won’t be on the grid in 2025. The Finnish driver is heading to Mercedes as a reserve driver. Sergio Perez fell out of favor with Red Bull and will continue doing exhibition races and drives for the brand this year.

Another knock for Latin American fans is the young Argentine Franco Colapinto. He will continue to hone his skills as a reserve driver at Williams but is set to return to the hot seat in 2026.
