Ferrari promoted Beganovic to Formula 1 reserve role for 2027

Beganovic’s Ferrari role

Ferrari promoted Dino Beganovic to a Formula 1 reserve-driver role for the 2027 season, a move that gives him a direct role in the team’s Formula 1 program. Beganovic will leave Formula 2 to focus on his Formula 1 duties with Ferrari, where he will work in the simulator and support race-weekend development. He joins Antonio Giovinazzi in Ferrari’s reserve-driver lineup, giving the team two drivers in that role as it continues to build its depth behind the race seats. The switch gives Ferrari a clear next step with a driver who has spent seven years inside the Ferrari Driver Academy and has already picked up multiple opportunities to run the team’s Formula 1 machinery in practice.

Beganovic’s Formula 1 path

Beganovic arrives at the reserve role with a strong junior record and a growing link to Ferrari’s Formula 1 program. The Swedish-Bosnian driver is 22 and has made four Formula 1 practice appearances for Ferrari across the 2025 and 2026 seasons, gaining mileage at the top level while still racing in Formula 2. He currently sits fifth in the 2026 Formula 2 standings with DAMS and has three Formula 2 victories, including back-to-back wins in Madring and Baku. Those results add to a resume that has kept him in the conversation inside Ferrari’s development pipeline, even as the team moves him away from the demands of a full Formula 2 campaign and toward a more direct role in Formula 1 preparation.

Ferrari’s academy outlook

Ferrari’s promotion for Beganovic fits a broader picture of academy planning that continues to send drivers toward the upper levels of the sport. Beganovic has not yet secured a Formula 1 race seat, even though he has won races in every full-time junior category he has contested, a run that shows both his consistency and the challenge of turning junior success into a permanent place on the Formula 1 grid. Ferrari also has another academy driver moving forward, with Tuukka Taponen set to step up from Formula 3 after finishing third in the 2026 standings. That leaves Ferrari with a pipeline that remains active on multiple fronts, from reserve duties and simulator work to the next wave of junior promotions, while Beganovic’s path now shifts from chasing Formula 2 results to serving the Formula 1 team more directly.
