Minì debut
Alpine gave academy driver Gabriele Minì his Formula 1 debut in Mexico City, sending the 21-year-old into first practice at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and replacing Franco Colapinto in the cockpit. He drove Alpine’s A526 in the session and joined a grid that also featured several Formula 2-linked drivers at the circuit. The outing was part of Formula 1’s mandatory rookie practice requirements.
Alpine rookie work
Minì joined the Alpine Academy at the start of 2023 and was in his second season in Formula 2. He said he had prepared for the run on Alpine’s simulator at the team’s Enstone base. He also said he wanted to help Alpine collect useful data while making the most of the opportunity.
Formula 2 progress
Minì reached the Formula 1 weekend with results that already marked him out in Formula 2. He was fourth in the standings at the time, after previously leading the championship. His record included a win in the Miami Formula 2 feature race and another victory in the Hungary Formula 2 sprint race. The Mexico City outing followed those results and gave Minì his first turn in an Alpine F1 car.
