Hamilton pole
Lewis Hamilton took pole position for Ferrari in qualifying for the Mexico City Grand Prix at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. George Russell qualified second for Mercedes, 0.009 seconds behind Hamilton, whose pole-winning lap came in at 1:16.514. The result gave Hamilton his first pole for Ferrari and his first grand prix pole since the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix. It was also the 105th pole of his Formula 1 career. Ferrari also secured its first pole of the 2026 Formula 1 season in Mexico City.
Ferrari front
Charles Leclerc qualified third, giving Ferrari two cars inside the top three. Max Verstappen qualified fourth but dropped to fifth for the start after a one-place grid penalty for his Friday practice collision with Liam Lawson. Kimi Antonelli was promoted to fourth on the grid after Verstappen’s penalty. Lando Norris qualified sixth for McLaren, while Isack Hadjar, Lawson, Arvid Lindblad and Pierre Gasly rounded out the top 10.
Midfield trouble
The lower half of the qualifying order included several notable results. Oscar Piastri was eliminated in Q2 and qualified 13th. Carlos Sainz failed to reach Q3. Fernando Alonso stopped on track in Q1 after a suspected technical issue, and his stoppage triggered a red flag that interrupted the opening part of qualifying. By the end, Hamilton had secured pole, with Leclerc third and Ferrari leading the qualifying result in Mexico City.
