Camara promotion
Haas will give Rafael Camara his Formula 1 debut at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, bringing forward a move it had originally planned for 2027. The Ferrari junior and Formula 2 standings leader will step into the race seat alongside Ollie Bearman at his home event in Brazil, giving Haas a fresh driver pairing for one of the final rounds of the season. Camara’s promotion puts him in the car before the year is over.
Camara arrives after a strong run in Haas’ own machinery. The team said his promotion followed a productive TPC test in August, when he impressed in Haas’ 2025 car. The Sao Paulo weekend now gives him his first Formula 1 start at a race that matters to Haas on sporting and developmental levels.
Ocon exit
The promotion also closes the door on Esteban Ocon‘s return to a race seat with Haas this season. The team has confirmed that he will not drive again for Haas in 2026, ending any uncertainty about whether he might rejoin the lineup before the championship is over. Ocon had already said he would leave Haas at the end of the year, so the team’s latest move accelerates a separation that was already set to happen. What changes is the timing, not the direction.
Haas has already tried a different short-term solution once this season. Ryo Hirakawa filled in for Ocon at the Mexico City Grand Prix, and he made the most of the opportunity by finishing 10th and scoring a point in his first race for the team. Ocon’s absence from the remaining rounds leaves Haas with an unsettled lineup, and the team has not said who will drive in the final three races of the championship.
Haas direction
Ayao Komatsu framed the decision as one made with the team’s future in mind, saying it was “firmly in the best interest of the team moving forward.” The team chose a young driver already tied to its pipeline. Camara’s move from the test program to a Formula 1 race seat shows the progression that led to his debut at Sao Paulo.
Haas has kept its conversations with Ocon internal, so the public picture stops at the confirmation that he will not return. That leaves the focus on Camara’s debut and on what the team wants its lineup to look like after Brazil. Bearman now has a new teammate for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, while Haas prepares to assess its lineup for the remaining rounds. It is a promotion tied to timing, but it also brings forward a move Haas had planned for 2027.
