Ducati split at Le Mans as 2026 fairing forces rider setups
Ducati split its Le Mans garage by running a new 2026 side fairing on Pecco Bagnaia, Álex Márquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio, while Marc Márquez reverted to GP25-spec 2025 side-fairing elements. Bagnaia said Ducati were experiencing “a pretty difficult time,” but that progress from the Jerez test carried over to Le Mans and he was “much happier” with the new fairing because he could push and control the tires, even as the bike still lacked some turning and stopping performance.

Márquez said he feels “considerably slower” on the GP26, lacks front-end feel in fast and left-hand corners and described his Q1 position as “unlucky,” though he reported feeling better through the day. Álex Márquez and Di Giannantonio used the 2026 fairing and progressed directly to Q2, and three Ducati riders filled three of the top four spots on the timesheets. Weather forecasts pointing to a high chance of rain could further shape setup choices before qualifying.
Ducati described the approach as iterative development, testing the new aero on multiple riders while keeping rider-specific setups available. Team manager Davide Tardozzi said “the squad follows each rider’s preferences,” and Ducati noted the split at Le Mans highlighted how rider size, riding style and recent form influence technical direction. Some reports suggested limited units might have led the squad to save the package for Barcelona, and the weekend will provide immediate feedback on whether the 2026 side-fairing delivers the expected turning gains and helps Ducati regain consistent front-running form.
Bastianini joins Trackhouse for 2027 MotoGP season
Enea Bastianini will join Trackhouse for the 2027 MotoGP season on a two-year deal, with the team saying he will replace Ai Ogura and partner Raúl Fernández. Trackhouse announced the signing on Monday and said its 2027 lineup is now complete after extending Fernández earlier this month. Ogura is set to move to Yamaha’s factory team alongside 2024 champion Jorge Martin in MotoGP’s new 850cc era.
Bastianini will leave Red Bull KTM Tech3 at the end of this year after two difficult seasons. He joined Tech3 at the start of the 2025 campaign after a difficult spell with Ducati’s factory team, finished 14th in the riders’ championship in his first Tech3 season and scored one podium in two years. One season before joining Tech3, he finished fourth in the championship while riding for Ducati.
Trackhouse said Bastianini will begin working with the team at pre-season testing in Valencia after the 2026 season and will help develop Aprilia’s RS-GP prototype under new tires and regulations. Bastianini said he was excited for the new challenge and hoped to bring his experience and fighting spirit to the team. Trackhouse owner Justin Marks said Bastianini’s winning pedigree and top-level experience made him a strong fit as the team chases trophies.

Martín Returns Home to Aragón Leading Tight Title Fight
MotoGP returns to MotorLand Aragón with Aprilia and Jorge Martín carrying the momentum in a tight championship fight. Martín leads the standings with 240 points, 31 ahead of teammate Marco Bezzecchi on 209, while Aprilia’s factory RS-GP bikes sit at the top of the order after a strong Silverstone weekend. Martín took pole, won the sprint and finished on the podium in the British Grand Prix, and five riders are covered by 41 points with 370 points still available across the final 10 rounds and sprints, leaving open the chance the title could be decided at Valencia.
Aragón is Martín’s home Grand Prix, and his first race on an Aprilia at MotorLand. He said he wants to defend his lead and build on Silverstone in front of the Spanish fans. Bezzecchi arrives after a slight setback in his recovery from the collarbone injury he suffered in qualifying at the German Grand Prix, along with a knee injury and surgery after a crash at Sachsenring. He returned at Silverstone, finished third in both races and said the demands of that weekend affected his recovery, leaving him expecting to be less than 100% fit in Aragón.
Marc Márquez is fourth in the standings on 200 points, 40 behind Martín, with Ai Ogura third on 203. Raúl Fernández also moved into the title conversation after winning the British Grand Prix. Márquez has seven career wins at MotorLand Aragón and has taken pole, Sprint win, Grand Prix win and fastest lap in each of the last two weekends at the circuit.
