Chastain returns
Ross Chastain will return to JR Motorsports for part-time NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races in 2027, extending a run that has already produced strong results in select starts. JR Motorsports said Chastain will split select races in the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro with Shane van Gisbergen, and the team has not announced which events either driver will run.
Chastain has made part-time starts for JR Motorsports since 2025, and his recent record gives the team a reason to bring him back. He made five starts in 2025 and five more in 2026. In those 2025 races, he produced three top-five finishes. He also picked up a win at Charlotte in 2026 and earned a pole at Dover that same year. The return keeps him in a familiar seat and gives the team another driver for a limited schedule.
Van Gisbergen returns
Shane van Gisbergen will also return to JR Motorsports in 2027, giving the program another proven winner for part-time duty. The team has not revealed where he will race, leaving his 2027 schedule open.
Van Gisbergen’s JR Motorsports résumé has grown quickly since 2025. He made three starts for the team in 2025 and three more in 2026. He won at the Chicago Street Course in 2025, then added victories at Circuit of the Americas and Sonoma in 2026. He also finished eighth at Watkins Glen after a pit lane clash. Those results explain why JR Motorsports kept him in the mix. He brings race-winning pace and a record of delivering in limited appearances. For a team using select entries, that profile matters.
JR Motorsports plans
JR Motorsports is leaning into a part-time approach again in 2027, while the schedule remains open. The team is clear about one point: both drivers are set for multiple starts.
The setup also shows how JR Motorsports is using its part-time program in 2027. Together, the two drivers give JR Motorsports a lineup with speed and versatility. The team has not filled in the race list yet, but the driver lineup already carries plenty of weight.
