Thomas captures Firemen’s Nationals
Kevin Thomas Jr. won the 41st Firemen’s Nationals at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and gave 4 Kings Racing its first on-track USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship win. Thomas started fifth in the 40-lap feature, worked his way to the front on lap seven and then controlled the race through multiple cautions to earn the $10,000 winner’s prize. He finished 1.924 seconds ahead of Jacob Denney and collected his eighth USAC National Midget victory. It was also Thomas’ first Angell Park win in a race he won at the finish.
Angell Park records
The Firemen’s Nationals also produced a pair of track records at Angell Park. Hayden Reinbold set the new qualifying mark with a lap of 14.166 seconds. Brandon Waelti added another record in heat race action when he set the new eight-lap track standard. Gavin Miller took third, Jakeb Boxell finished fourth and Gunnar Setser was fifth.
4 Kings Racing breaks through
The result contrasted with the pair’s first USAC triumph together in June, which came after a post-race disqualification rather than at the end of a race won on the track.
