Marc Márquez Takes Motegi Momentum to Mandalika

Márquez momentum at Motegi
Marc Márquez leaves Japan with the clearest form line in MotoGP. He won the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi and backed it up by taking the Motegi Sprint the previous weekend, a two-race stretch that pushed his recent run to six wins in nine races. After Japan, Jorge Martín led Márquez by two points, 333-331, with Marco Bezzecchi third on 284. Six rounds remained in the season, so the margins are still tight, but Márquez has done enough to put real pressure on the riders above him. The Motegi weekend mattered for another reason, too.
Mandalika challenge ahead
Márquez now heads to the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika still searching for his first MotoGP finish there. He has never finished a Sunday race at the circuit since it joined the calendar in 2022, and that history gives the weekend a different feel from Motegi. Ducati has won the last three races at Mandalika, so the machinery has already shown it can work there, but Márquez still faces a different challenge. Mandalika features high-speed direction changes and cornering demands. Márquez is expected to study Fermín Aldeguer’s data as he tries to adapt to the heat-resistant Michelin rear tire and the cornering demands that shape the race. Mat Oxley said Aldeguer’s corner-speed style suits Mandalika better than Márquez’s stop-and-go Ducati approach, and that view fits the shape of the track. Aprilia is also favored there because of those high-speed changes, which adds another layer to a weekend that already asks a lot from every rider in the field.
Title race tightens
The title fight remains open, even with Márquez on a strong run. Martín still holds the lead after Japan, and Bezzecchi remains close enough to stay in the conversation, so the points picture remains tight. Carlo Pernat said Márquez is now the title favorite with six Grands Prix remaining, and that read matches the direction of the championship after Motegi. At the same time, the championship still turns on what happens next, not just what happened in Japan. Mandalika can reshape the mood in a hurry because the circuit places different demands on the riders than Motegi did. A strong weekend there would strengthen Márquez’s case again. A difficult one would give Martín and Bezzecchi a fresh opening. Bagnaia summed up that tension when he called the championship battle “fantastic” and said he hoped “the best win.” That is where the season stands now, with the leading riders separated by thin margins and every circuit carrying real weight in the finish.
