Marquez topped Sepang practice
Marc Marquez finished fastest in Sepang practice after a crash early in the session. He still put together a 1:57.000 lap and held off Alex Marquez by 0.109 seconds, giving the brothers the top two spots on the day. Behind the Marquez pair, Ai Ogura claimed third, Pedro Acosta took fourth and Fabio Di Giannantonio finished fifth.
Martin left practice
Jorge Martin’s day ended early after a scare at Turn 12 forced him out of the rest of practice. Aprilia and the doctors decided it was too risky for Martin to continue. Martin had already been riding with a broken wrist from a crash at Phillip Island the previous Saturday. He finished the day 21st and last among the classified riders.
Q2 places settled
The direct Q2 places went to Marco Bezzecchi, Enea Bastianini, Maverick Vinales, Franco Morbidelli and Joan Mir. Johann Zarco and Pecco Bagnaia both crashed on their final runs. Brad Binder was the only KTM rider outside the direct Q2 places, so he had to go through Q1.
