Márquez shoulder surgery
Marc Márquez said surgery during the French Grand Prix weekend fixed radial nerve compression in his arm, which contributed to the fatigue he carried through the first half of the 2026 season. Right-shoulder problems from a crash in Indonesia the previous year also contributed to that fatigue. He said those issues included episodes of sudden loss of sensation in his arm. The extra recovery and physiotherapy required by the injury made it harder for him to manage his energy across race weekends.
The recovery load changed how he handled a grand prix weekend and left him completely empty by Sunday. Márquez linked the shoulder problems, arm symptoms and surgery to a prolonged period of physical management through the season.
Márquez energy management
Márquez said he deliberately toned down his emotions during MotoGP weekends to save energy for Sunday’s main race. He said that approach developed during the first half of the 2026 season, when he often felt completely empty by Sunday. The goal was to arrive at the race with more left in the tank.
He also pointed to the sprint-race format introduced in 2023 as another reason energy management became more difficult. Márquez said the format made it harder to protect his energy across the weekend and contributed to his decision to keep his emotions in check.
Márquez focus
Márquez said he now spends more time in his garage or paddock office, reflecting the more measured approach he described across the season. He said focusing on his physical condition and staying mentally concentrated helped him feel better and believe he could perform at his best.
He said that balance gave him a better chance to perform at a high level after a stretch in which he often felt empty by Sunday. The adjustment centered on managing his energy with more restraint and concentration.
