Larson crash tears

Kyle Larson’s Iowa Corn 350 broke apart on a restart on Lap 149, when contact involving John Hunter Nemechek created a four-wide squeeze and sent Larson and Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman into the outside wall. The impact changed the race in a hurry. Larson’s No. 5 car took front-end damage and broke a right-rear toe link, leaving him with a car that could not run on equal footing the rest of the way. Bowman took the brunt of the hit on the other side of the squeeze, and the crash quickly turned a restart into a race-ending chain of problems for both drivers. Bowman damage ends

Bowman’s No. 48 was too damaged to continue, and officials ruled him out of the race. He finished 34th and recorded a DNF in the Iowa Corn 350. Bowman radioed that the cars were “destroyed.” That summed up the scale of the damage after the wall hit, which left no realistic path for the car to return to full speed. For Bowman, the crash was a direct end to the afternoon. For Larson, it was the same kind of trouble in a different form. The No. 5 carried enough damage to force a long repair period and a return to the track several laps down. The incident also underlined how quickly one restart can reshape a Cup race when traffic compresses and multiple cars fight for the same space. The result for both Hendrick Motorsports drivers came from the same moment, and both lost the chance to contend once the cars hit the wall.

Larson standings slide

Larson came back out after repairs, but he had no path to recover the laps he lost. He finished 33rd, 18 laps behind race winner Ty Gibbs. That made the crash more than a bad break on one restart. It also extended a winless run that has lasted since May 2025 and dropped him to 10th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. The finish fit a rough Iowa Speedway pattern for Larson, whose Cup results there now read 34th, 28th and 33rd. The numbers show how unforgiving the track has been for him in Cup competition. The setback also came after Larson was angry on the radio in the wake of the crash, which showed how quickly the race moved from competitive to chaotic. Bowman left with a DNF, Larson left with a damaged points position and both drivers were caught in the same squeeze that began with the Lap 149 restart.
