Tsolov’s FP1 debut
Nikola Tsolov will make his Formula 1 race weekend debut for Racing Bulls in Free Practice 1 at the Mexico City Grand Prix, taking over Liam Lawson’s car for the 60-minute session at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The run follows his first test for Racing Bulls in Imola in August.
Tsolov’s F2 form
Tsolov arrives in Formula 1 with his 2026 Formula 2 campaign behind him. He sits second in the standings with two rounds left, and his season totals include six wins and nine podiums.
Tsolov’s 2027 case
Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane framed the FP1 appearance as a meaningful part of Tsolov’s growth in the Red Bull Junior Programme, and as a boost for the team’s weekend preparation. Tsolov has also said he wants to make the most of the session and learn more about the car and the current regulations. Racing Bulls has not announced its 2027 lineup, and Lawson, Arvid Lindblad and Tsolov are all in the mix for those seats. The FP1 appearance will also complete Racing Bulls’ required rookie practice sessions for the season. Red Bull’s internal discussion over the 2027 seat battle is still open, with reports suggesting the group is split evenly between keeping Lawson or promoting Tsolov into the Racing Bulls drive. For Tsolov, the task is clear. Deliver a clean, useful first session in Formula 1 and add another case for why he belongs in the conversation.
