Ocon scored best Haas result yet in Baku

Ocon’s Baku breakthrough
Esteban Ocon finished eighth in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, a run that also stood as his best finish of the 2026 season and his third top-10 of the year. The result carried extra weight because he began 14th after yellow flags wrecked his final Q2 lap and left him 0.333 seconds short of reaching Q3. Ocon said the Haas VF-26 felt its best all season and that he believed he had a Q3 car. Ocon said Haas had a strong car all weekend.
Haas doubles up
Haas left Baku with both cars in the top 10, as Oliver Bearman finished ninth to complete a double points finish for the team. Ocon passed Bearman during the race, then later benefited from a mistake by Oscar Piastri. He credited pit-stop execution and Safety Car decisions for the result. Ocon said the result should give Haas momentum for the upcoming high-speed races.
Ocon’s contract watch
The finish also came with the broader question of Ocon’s future. He said he still did not have a contract for 2027 and said he would be a free agent at the end of the season. He added that he had already spoken with other teams as he looks for a new seat. There was speculation that Haas could turn to Formula 2 title leader Rafael Camara. “I’m one of the best out there,” he said.
