Red Bull hires Tom McCullough as head of racing for 2027

Red Bull has turned to Tom McCullough to lead its racing operation, bringing in an engineer with deep Formula 1 experience and a long track record at Aston Martin and its predecessor teams. McCullough spent more than a decade in that organization, where he worked four seasons as chief race engineer before moving into the performance director role. His background gives Red Bull a senior technical voice with experience across race operations, engineering leadership and wider performance work. The team said it was delighted to bring McCullough in and said he will add experience and expertise to the role.
Gianpiero Lambiase shift
McCullough will step into a role that Gianpiero Lambiase has handled alongside his duties as Max Verstappen’s race engineer. Lambiase has been serving in that dual capacity, balancing day-to-day driver communication with broader racing responsibilities for the team. Red Bull plans for him to move on from the head of racing job and take up the chief racing officer role at McLaren later on, allowing McCullough to take over the position.

Red Bull had already ruled out Tom Hart for the race engineer vacancy after Hart decided against a move to Williams. McCullough stepped away from Aston Martin’s senior trackside duties in early 2025 and moved to non-Formula 1 projects, focusing on the Performance Technologies division.
