Preece Takes Over
RFK Racing announced that Ryan Preece will move into its No. 6 Ford Mustang Dark Horse beginning with the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season, replacing Brad Keselowski in the organization’s flagship entry. Preece will enter his third season with the team after earning his first NASCAR Cup Series victory earlier this season at Daytona International Speedway. He has driven RFK’s No. 60 car for the past two seasons. RFK said he will replace Keselowski in the No. 6. Preece said the chance to carry the No. 6 means a great deal to him. The announcement focused on Preece moving up while remaining part of the same organization.
Preece’s Team
Preece will bring his current team with him to the No. 6 car, and crew chief Derrick Finley will move with him and continue in that role. Preece has spent the last two seasons in the No. 60 before moving to the No. 6. RFK president Chip Bowers called Preece a strong fit for the No. 6, and Mark Martin said the same. The driver and crew chief pairing will continue as RFK shifts Preece into the No. 6.
No. 6 Legacy
The No. 6 has been associated with RFK Racing since Jack Roush entered Cup in 1988. Mark Martin drove the No. 6 from 1988 to 2006 and won 35 races in it. RFK also said details on the future of the No. 60 entry will be announced later, leaving that piece of the lineup unresolved for now. The story centers on the decision to elevate Preece into the No. 6 and keep his current core group with him. The change will set up a new chapter for Preece while reshaping the direction of the program’s next phase.
