The 2027 move
Sheldon Creed will move to Sam Hunt Racing in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series in 2027 on a multi-year deal, giving the current points leader a new home after his run with Haas Factory Team. Sam Hunt Racing announced the signing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and the move puts Creed in the team’s No. 26 GR Supra beginning in 2027. Creed will leave Haas after the 2026 season, closing out a year in which he has already built a strong title push. He leads the standings with six races remaining and owns an 11-point edge over Justin Allgaier. Creed’s 2026 season has also produced wins at EchoPark Speedway, Darlington Raceway and Bristol. He finished the year with three wins, 12 top-five finishes and 19 top-10 finishes, a run that has kept him at the front of the championship race and made him one of the series’ most productive drivers.
Sam Hunt Racing details
Sam Hunt said the move had been years in the making, and Creed said he is excited to join Sam Hunt Racing and work with crew chief Kris Bowen. The deal gives the team a proven front-runner and gives Creed a clear path into a new organization after his current stretch with Haas Factory Team. Hunt also thanked Toyota Racing and TRD for their support, pointing to the backing that helped bring the agreement together. Creed’s move gives Sam Hunt Racing another major piece as it continues to build around its Toyota program and its next wave of plans. The team said details about its No. 24 entry and other partnerships will be announced later, leaving part of its 2027 lineup still to be filled in. For Creed, the switch pairs him with a new crew chief and a new number while keeping him in a title fight that still has plenty of racing left this season.
Haas Factory Team plans
Haas Factory Team faces its own changes as Creed prepares to depart. The team plans to expand to three full-time entries in 2027 and has two open seats, a move that will reshape its lineup before the next season starts. Sam Mayer is leaving Haas Factory Team, and Dean Thompson is set to join, giving the organization one confirmed departure and one confirmed addition as it builds forward. Creed’s exit opens another spot after he finishes the 2026 season, and that adds more movement to a roster that is already in transition. The next NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series season will open at Daytona International Speedway, setting up another reset for the field and for the teams trying to sort out their full-time plans. For now, Creed remains the driver to beat in the championship standings, but his future now points to Sam Hunt Racing and the No. 26 GR Supra.
