Perez signs extension
Sergio Perez has extended his contract with the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, keeping him with the outfit until at least 2029. Cadillac announced the move ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix. Perez arrives at the weekend with another milestone in sight, because he is set to make his 300th Formula 1 start in front of his home crowd. The milestone places the focus on both the driver’s present role and the scale of the commitment Cadillac has made.
Perez backs project
Perez said he believes in the project and said he is committed to helping build the team over the next three years. Those comments fit the direction of the contract and the message Cadillac wants to send. Perez gives Cadillac a driver with long experience. Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss said Perez’s experience and leadership will provide continuity as the team tries to move up the grid.
Bottas seat remains unresolved
Cadillac has not made the same long-term commitment to teammate Valtteri Bottas, and the second seat remains unresolved. That leaves Perez’s new deal as the clearest personnel move in Cadillac’s lineup for now. The contrast is sharp. Perez has security through at least 2029, while the other side of the garage still waits for clarity. Perez’s contract also carries a wider milestone angle beyond this season. If he completes the new deal, he would move up to third on Formula 1’s all-time starts list. Only Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton would remain ahead of him. That places the extension in a larger historical context. The deal gives the team a firm foundation on one side and leaves a major decision open on the other.
