Van Gisbergen comments
Shane van Gisbergen said Trackhouse Racing has “some big team changes coming” after the Martinsville Speedway race, although he did not explain what those changes would be. He paired that warning with praise for the work the team put in during the event, and he said Trackhouse is still experimenting and working forward together as it prepares for next season. He also pointed to the performance of Ross Chastain, who was up front for much of the race, as part of the picture from Martinsville. Van Gisbergen did not map out what the changes would mean for the organization.
Martinsville finish
Van Gisbergen finished fifth in the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville after starting 29th, a climb that gave him his best Martinsville result and his third top-five finish on an oval in the Cup Series. He said the run could have been better if he had qualified nearer the front. Instead, he spent much of the day fighting through traffic, and that kept him from getting clean air and a clearer path toward the leaders. By the time he reached them, he said his car was too damaged to keep making a stronger push. The end result still mattered: a fifth-place finish from deep in the field improved on his previous best Martinsville result of 11th.
Trackhouse outlook
Trackhouse Racing currently fields three full-time Cup cars for Ross Chastain, Connor Zilisch and van Gisbergen, and all three contracts are set to expire after the 2027 season. Zilisch is already headed to Hendrick Motorsports after that season, which gives the team a known change on the calendar and adds more attention to what comes next for the rest of the lineup. That makes van Gisbergen’s comments after Martinsville part of a larger picture around the organization. He said Trackhouse is still experimenting and working forward together as it prepares for next season, and that lines up with a team that is still sorting through where it is headed long term. Van Gisbergen did not spell out what the team changes will be, so the details remain unknown. The race at Martinsville offered one more look at that mix of progress and uncertainty.
