Opening day action
Lukas Skinner and Jacobo Trigo set the pace on opening day of the World Surf League European Qualifying Series Edommo Surf Pro Razo QS 2,000 in Playa de Razo, Spain. Two- to three-foot surf shaped the first day of competition and kept the early heats compact, but the event still moved through a full slate. The men’s Round of 80 was completed, the women’s Round of 40 was completed and 12 heats of the men’s Round of 64 were also run. Skinner delivered the day’s best single wave with a 9.00. Trigo answered with the top heat total at 15.66. Those two marks stood out in a day built around steady progression and a fast pace through the opening rounds.
Men’s Round 64
The men’s bracket began to sort itself out as the Round of 64 opened with 12 heats completed. Noa Dupouy advanced, along with Nicolas Paulet, Justin Becret, Lukas Skinner and Jacobo Trigo. Skinner’s 9.00 remained the highest individual wave score on the men’s side and across the day, while Trigo’s 15.66 topped the overall heat totals. The numbers gave both surfers strong early positions in the draw and made them the most productive competitors on the board after the first wave of Round of 64 action. With the Round of 80 already done, the men’s side moved quickly from the first cut to the next phase of the event.
Women’s Round 40
The women’s side also got through its first stage, with the Round of 40 completed on opening day. Anais Blanchard recorded a 7.33, one of the day’s key women’s scores, and Sara Romeo Astiazaran advanced after opening with a 6.50. In a day of small surf, every clean ride carried real value, and the early numbers showed surfers taking advantage when sets lined up. The women’s bracket did not produce the same kind of headline score as Skinner and Trigo on the men’s side, but it still delivered a clear first step in the competition. With both divisions already moving through their opening rounds, the event established its early leaders and set the tone for the heats to come.
