Talladega spoiler change
NASCAR will take a different superspeedway package to Talladega, trimming the rear spoiler for the Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway while leaving the horsepower unchanged. The YellaWood 500 will use a 3.5-inch spoiler, a half-inch smaller than the 4-inch spoiler used at Daytona. NASCAR had already cut the original 7-inch spoiler down to 4 inches for the Daytona setup, so the Talladega adjustment reduces the spoiler again.
The change gives Talladega a shorter spoiler while keeping the engine output at the level established by the Daytona package. NASCAR reduced horsepower there from 510 to 465, and Talladega will stay at 465 horsepower. The Talladega setup therefore changes the spoiler while keeping the horsepower unchanged.
Talladega stages shape race
NASCAR also set the stage lengths for the Talladega race. Stage 1 will end on Lap 98, Stage 2 on Lap 143, and the race is scheduled to finish on Lap 188 barring overtime.
The shorter stages are intended to discourage fuel-saving strategies and push teams to race hard to the finish.
