TRICON Garage roster
TRICON Garage completed its four-driver NASCAR FedEx Freight Truck Series lineup for 2027 at Talladega Superspeedway, adding Dawson Sutton and Sammy Smith to a group that already included Kaden Honeycutt and Gio Ruggiero. The move gave the team a full-time roster for the season and locked in the two newest pieces of a program that would feature four drivers across its core entries. Sutton will drive the No. 5 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, and Smith will pilot the No. 15 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. TRICON also said its No. 1 Toyota Tundra would use multiple drivers in 2027, a setup that left one of the organization’s key trucks available for a rotating cast. The team said crew chief pairings and sponsorships would be announced later, so the lineup still had a few moving parts even after the main driver picture came into focus. The announcement also gave TRICON a clear direction for 2027, with the team building around a mix of incoming talent and holdover names as it mapped out its Truck Series plans. Honeycutt and Ruggiero remained part of the foundation, and the two newcomers rounded out the rest of the roster with specific rides already assigned.
Sammy Smith move
Smith moved to TRICON from JR Motorsports in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series after completing four full-time seasons there. His record in that series included three wins, 29 top-fives and 65 top-10s, a résumé that reflected his results across a long run in NASCAR. He also already had Truck Series experience, with 19 starts to his name. In those appearances, Smith posted two top-fives and six top-10s, which gave TRICON a driver who had already logged meaningful laps in the division before taking on a full schedule. The 2027 season will be his first full Truck Series campaign, so his move to TRICON marked a new chapter after four seasons with JR Motorsports. The team’s No. 15 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro gave Smith a direct path into a full-time Truck Series seat, and the move positioned him for a broader role in a series where consistency across the season matters as much as raw speed in any single race. His previous record in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series gave him an established background, and his Truck Series starts supplied a baseline of experience that TRICON could build on next year.
Dawson Sutton track record
Sutton also came to TRICON with a defined background in the Truck Series, and his move closed out his run with Rackley W.A.R. He previously competed for the team and made 52 Truck Series starts over three seasons there, giving him a solid base of seat time before his next opportunity. The 2027 campaign will be his second full Truck Series season, so the move kept him on a full-time path in NASCAR’s national series. Sutton’s record also included the 2024 Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway Pro Late Model Championship, a title that added another line to his resume and gave context to the steps he had taken on the way to this point. His place in TRICON’s lineup would come through the No. 5 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, and that seat gave him a fresh start after his time with Rackley W.A.R. That team confirmed its Truck Series program would end at Talladega, bringing Sutton’s previous chapter to a close at the same track where TRICON made its announcement. With Sutton and Smith now in the fold, TRICON had filled the last two spots in its 2027 lineup and turned the focus toward how the four-driver group would fit together once the season began.
