Antonelli tops practice
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli topped final practice for the Spanish Grand Prix at Madrid’s Madring, setting the quickest lap of the session with a 1 minute, 32.797-second run. Charles Leclerc finished second, 0.166 seconds behind, and Oscar Piastri was third. Lando Norris took fourth, Max Verstappen fifth and George Russell sixth. That left the front of the field tightly grouped on the timesheet before the session shifted from outright pace to damage control.
Hamilton crashes
Lewis Hamilton‘s final practice ended with the first red flag after a crash in his Ferrari. The car suffered front-wing damage and front-right tire damage. Ferrari repeatedly told Hamilton to stop, but he kept driving toward the pits before eventually stopping trackside. The incident turned attention away from lap times and toward the condition of the Ferrari. The sequence marked a rough turn in the session for Hamilton, who had to bring the car back with the damage already done.
Bearman wrecks Haas
Oliver Bearman caused the second stoppage later in the session with a heavy crash. Bearman was unhurt. His Haas was too damaged to be repaired in time for qualifying. The late-session wreck added another interruption to a practice hour that had already been broken up by stoppages.
