Capirossi honored in Misano
MotoGP inducted Loris Capirossi as a MotoGP Legend in Misano on Saturday, and MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta presented him with the medal in front of Capirossi’s family, friends and colleagues. Capirossi took the honor with clear emotion. He called it “an emotional moment” and thanked his family, the manufacturers he rode for and the supporters who followed his career across more than two decades. He said the recognition was one of the best moments of his life. Capirossi now serves as MotoGP’s Race Direction representative.
Capirossi career numbers
Capirossi built his record across 22 seasons from 1990 to 2011. He made 328 Grand Prix starts, won 29 races, scored 99 podium finishes, took 41 pole positions and claimed three world titles. He also remains the youngest Grand Prix World Champion after winning the 1990 125cc title at 17 years and 165 days old. Capirossi gave Ducati its first MotoGP victory at the 2003 Catalan Grand Prix. He won MotoGP races with Yamaha, Honda and Ducati, and he was one of only five riders to win MotoGP races with three manufacturers.
Capirossi legacy beyond
After retiring from racing in 2011, Capirossi remained connected to the series and now serves as MotoGP’s Race Direction representative. The honor recognized his racing career and his continuing connection to MotoGP.
