David Gravel is always a threat, evidenced by his 2.8 finishing average in the previous 10 races. However, we are loving the confidence and momentum that Carson Macedo is carrying with him into South Dakota. He enters Labor Day weekend with fair odds of +264, possibly paying out $72.80 for a $20 punt.
H2H Odds
Carson Macedo takes on David Gravel as the underdog, but the Californian offers the best shot at an upset. He’s only greeted the stewards ahead of Gravel in 16 races this season, but has outwitted his opponent on three occasions in the last five starts. Macedo averages 2.4 in that period compared to Gravel’s 2.8.

Wisconsin is gearing up to host a triple header of the “Greatest Show on Dirt” this weekend, starting on Friday night in Plymouth. Tyler Erb won the World of Outlaws Late Model feature at Mansfield Speedway and collected a surprise $100,000 winner’s prize after local philanthropists the Niss family boosted the advertised purse from $12,000 to $100,000 moments before the race. The six-figure payout was Erb’s first and elevated the one-off 57 Special Opener on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series calendar.
The payday came a day after Erb and his girlfriend, Emma Hodge, announced they were expecting their first child.
Erb started second, passed pole-sitter Ricky Thornton Jr. on the opening lap and led all 40 laps, fending off a late charge from Brandon Overton to win by roughly half a second. Thornton later fell out of contention with a flat tire. Bobby Pierce rallied from 10th to finish third, while Josh Rice was fourth and Hudson O’Neal fifth. The victory added to Erb’s résumé — five World of Outlaws wins, a World of Outlaws series championship, and 21 DIRTcar Summer Nationals victories, including the Gateway Dirt Nationals and the National 100. Erb, of New Waverly, Texas, quipped that after taking the lead on lap one he wound up with a $100,000 payday.
Carson Macedo has re-signed with Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) to compete in his eighth consecutive World of Outlaws (WoO) season and his sixth with JJR. He will again pilot the No. 41, and the team framed his return as a pursuit of the championship it was built to win.
Since joining JJR, Macedo has compiled 52 WoO series victories, two National Open crowns, the $83,000 Dennis Roth Classic, and four wins at Knoxville Raceway. While driving the No. 41, he has never finished worse than third in season points. After a strong 2025 campaign, including 11 wins, 25 podiums, 35 top-five finishes, and 53 top-10s, he slipped to third in the standings behind Michael Kofoid but recorded his fourth season in five with double-digit victories.
Owner and crew chief Philip Dietz returns to lead the effort, joined again by car chief Robby McQuinn and tire specialist Adam Zimmerman. The trio will enter 2026 together for a third season of continuity. JJR views that continuity, combined with Macedo’s record, as central to mounting a realistic championship bid. The team will begin its title chase at the Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fl, February 4–7. The announcement reaffirms Macedo and JJR as front-runners on the World of Outlaws trail.
