El Salvador delivered a standout stop on the Championship Tour, with Jordy Smith claiming victory in the men’s bracket and Gabriela Bryan dominating the women’s side. Now, the WSL moves down under for the iconic Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, where Caitlin Simmers and Italo Ferreira lead the pre-event odds.
Ferreira, the current series leader, will need to make history if he’s to win — only seven men and one woman with a goofy stance have ever claimed victory at Bells. Can he join that exclusive club again?

Italo Ferreira (+592)
Italo Ferreira rides onto the Surf Coast as the series leader, with over 8,000 points on the nearest chaser. Ferreira had his toughest event of the year in El Salvador, losing out to eventual Champion Jordy Smith in the quarters. He’s one of the seven male goofy-footed surfers to have won this event, a feat he managed in 2018. He has struggled here recently, losing out in the round of 32 in his last two visits.
Ethan Ewing (+1144)
Australian Ethan Ewing starts his home leg of the tour, ranked second in the series. He lost out to Crosby Colapinto in the quarterfinals in El Salvador, but he’s secured two semifinals this campaign. The 2023 Bells Beach Champion is looking for his first trophy since that event to help him leapfrog Italo in the standings.
Yago Dora (+1244)
The goofy stance of Yago Dora has struggled at Bells Beach in previous editions, progressing only as far as the round of 16. Dora showed his class two rounds ago in Portugal, winning the MEO Rip Curl Pro. The Brazilian has lost out in the quarter-finals twice in his last three events, operating with an average heat score of 11.75.
Jordy Smith (+1624)
Jordy Smith returned to the winner’s enclosure at Punta Roca, marking his first triumph since 2017. That year, Smith rose to the top of the podium at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, the same event he tackles this week. The South African looked comfortable on the break in El Salvador and took down Ferreira, Houshmand, and Fioravanti en route to his first win in eight years.
Cole Houshmand (+2310)
Cole Houshmand produced his stop of the season so far in La Libertad, riding into a semifinal. The Californian faced a firing Smith and lost by a score of 5.67 in the end. Houshmand is only in his second full season on tour and already has the major scalp of Bells Beach under the board. He joined Italo in the exclusive “Goofy Stance Winners Club” last year and is back to defend his honor this week.
Expert Pick: 2025 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach
A goofy stance surfer is up against it at Bells Beach, but Italo Ferreira has overcome the challenge once, and we think he can do it again. The Brazilian is our expert pick for the stop in Victoria, starting at +592 and offering a prospective return of $138.40 for a $20 stake.

Caitlin Simmers (+305)
A semifinal loss to Gabriela Bryan in El Salvador saw Caitlin Simmers lose ground in the Championship. She starts at Bells Beach with the Hawaiian hot on her fin, but the Californian is a classy operator this year, making two finals and a semifinal in the first four rounds. Simmers has only surfed this wave twice since joining the tour, and she won last time out.
Caroline Marks (+385)
After her success in Portugal, we had high expectations for Caroline Marks in La Libertad, but she bowed out in the round of 16, losing to Isabella Nichols. Marks dropped a spot in the Championship after Central America, ending the round in fourth. She came off second-best against Caitlin Simmers in the semifinal in 2024 and still seeks her maiden final at Bells Beach.
Tyler Wright (+803)
The veteran, Tyler Wright, exited the El Salvador Pro in the round of 16 for her second such loss of the season. Wright triumphed at Bells Beach in 2022 and 2023, and she’s progressed to the final four times at this venue. The Australian starts with one win under the board in 2025 and is the fifth-best surfer in the Women’s Championship.
Gabriela Bryan (+806)
Gabriela Bryan has gone from strength to strength this campaign, improving her finishing position in every event. The Hawaiian triumphed in El Salvador and positioned herself within striking distance of the Championship leader. Bryan has yet to progress beyond the quarters at this event, a feat she achieved last year.
Molly Picklum (+1111)
Molly Picklum is the most consistent surfer on tour this season, making every semifinal after four rounds. The Australian had her best shot to win a trophy in Abu Dhabi, losing out to Simmers by 0.40 in the final. Molly paddles out at Bells Beach and placed third in the Championship. Her best return at this beach came in 2023 when she finished second behind Tyler Wright
Expert Pick: Women’s WSL Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach
Defending Champion Caitlin Simmers earns our confidence heading into Bells Beach. The teenager has shown phenomenal form in the early stages of the season, making two finals and winning once. Sportsbooks have Simmers at +305 to win at this venue, potentially paying $81 on a $20 bet.

Where to Bet on WSL
Italo Ferreira and Caitlin Simmers lead the standings heading into Bells Beach, but both face fierce competition and historical challenges on this iconic wave. Can Ferreira become the first goofy-footer to win twice? Will Simmers defend her title, or is Tyler Wright set for a third win on home turf?
How Can I Verify if WSL Betting is Legal in My State?
Refer to your sportsbook’s eligibility requirements, terms, and conditions, or contact your state’s gaming commission to verify your state’s WSL betting legality. Most licensed betting platforms restrict access in prohibited states, saving you from the long confirmation process.
Which Sportsbooks Offer WSL Betting?
For the best WSL betting experience, select reputable, regulated sportsbooks like Fanduel, DraftKings, CaesarsSportsbook, and BetMGM. Check event schedules and relevant offers ahead of every WSL competition. Use Underdog Fantasy for Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) gaming.
What is the Current Legal Status of Betting on the World Surf League in the US?
The legal status of WSL betting differs from state to state. The lifting of the federal sports betting ban in 2018 (by the Supreme Court) gave states the independence to legalize sports betting. WSL betting is mostly legal in states with regulated sports betting and licensed sportsbooks like Colorado and New Jersey. Check your sportsbooks and state-specific regulations to confirm availability.
What Are the Most Popular Types of Bets for WSL Events?
Common WSL betting options include outright winner bets, head-to-head matchups, and futures bets (predicting season champions). Most platforms also allow prop bets—for example, you can predict the highest wave score in a competition.
Do Sportsbooks Offer Live Betting for WSL?
Yes. Betting platforms like FanDuel and BetMGM have live betting options. Their users can place bets during the WSL competition. For example, bettors can predict the next wave score, who will win the ongoing heat, or whether a competitor will achieve a given aggregate. Note that not all events may qualify for live betting. Check out your sportsbook live betting section for more.
Can I Bet on WSL Events Even If My State Doesn’t Allow Sports Betting?
Consider Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) if your state does not allow sports betting. Unlike traditional betting, DFS falls under a different regulatory framework, making it legal in several jurisdictions. DFS platforms like Underground Fantasy and DraftKings DFS are common in states where sports betting is illegal.

Place your bets with our partner sportsbooks and check out our WSL Betting Guide if you’re new to the tour.
And remember—bet smart, have fun, and enjoy every wave.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Refer to your sportsbook’s eligibility requirements, terms, and conditions, or contact your state’s gaming commission to verify your state’s WSL betting legality. Most licensed betting platforms restrict access in prohibited states, saving you from the long confirmation process.
For the best WSL betting experience, select reputable, regulated sportsbooks like Fanduel, DraftKings, Caesars Sportsbook, and BetMGM. Check event schedules and relevant offers ahead of every WSL competition. Use Underdog Fantasy for Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) gaming.
Common WSL betting options include outright winner bets, head-to-head matchups, and futures bets (predicting season champions). Most platforms also allow prop bets—for example, you can predict the highest wave score in a competition.
