Best Bets: WSL Western Australia Margaret River Pro Pre-Event Odds Analysis 2025

We had to wait 605 days to see Filipe Toledo take another title, but it was well worth the wait. After dazzling at Bell’s Beach, the Brazilian leads the WSL Western Australia Margaret River Pro pre-event odds, dropping in as the third favorite. Women’s yellow jersey holder Gabriela Bryan drops in on the West Coast of Australia looking to defend her crown.

Jack Robinson (+534)

Two wins in three starts at Margaret River make Jack Robinson the surfer to beat this week. History aside, “The Vortex Shaman” travels west with a semi-final and a win to his name this season, placing him in seventh on the Men’s Championship Tour. Jack will want to brush aside the Gold Coast Pro quickly after delivering his worst run of the year, with an Elimination Round exit.

Italo Ferreira (+654)

The men’s yellow jersey holder, Italo Ferreira, has strayed slightly from his early-season success, after consecutive exits in the round of 32. Ferreira has few success stories to report in Margaret River, but his overall record this season makes him a regular contender. The Brazilian drops in with two finals, a semi, and a win to the tally this term.

Filipe Toledo (+813)

Adding to the Brazilian firepower in the men’s Championship is Filipe Toledo, fresh off a win on the Gold Coast. His success on the East Coast was the first time he successfully navigated the quarter finals and grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The double World Champion put his competitors on notice and rose five places in the standings to start Margaret River as the sixth-ranked surfer.

Jordy Smith (+1787)

You have to go back to 2019 to find a time when Jordy Smith was looking this good. “Durban’s Finest” boasts a win and two quarter-final appearances in his last three events, catapulting him up the Championship Standings into third. The South African enjoyed his best performance at Margaret River in 2021 when he finished runner-up to Toledo.

Matthew McGillivray (+5002)

Matthew McGillvray is plagued by inconsistency this season, but makes an interesting bet at Margaret River. The South African has entered the semi-final twice in his last four visits to the Western Australian town, and he finished second to his compatriot Smith in this year’s Surf City El Salvador Pro.

Expert Pick: 2025 WA Margaret River Pro

Jack Robinson starts as our expert pick in Margaret River after winning twice here in his last three appearances. The local is priced at +534 in the pre-event odds, returning approximately $126.80 on a $20 bet.

Gabriela Bryan (+295)

Two Margaret River Pro finals in her last three visits put Gabriela Bryan at the head of the pre-event odds. The Hawaiian is back to defend her title, and enters in sublime form with a semi-final and two finals under her board this season. Bryan took top honors in El Salvador and has since progressed beyond the round of 16 or better in every event.

Caitlin Simmers (+419)

The joint Women’s Championship Tour leader Caitlin Simmers has faced consecutive round of 16 exits coming into the Western Australian showdown. Simmers found herself in two finals earlier in the season, winning the Surf Abu Dhabi Pro. Since she conquered the Middle East, Caitlin has only managed one semi-final appearance.

Molly Picklum (+614)

After reaching three semi-finals and a final in the first four events of the campaign, Molly Picklum is among the most consistent female surfers on tour. Her worst performance all year was a round of 16 loss to Luana Silva at Bells Beach. The Australian sits in third on the rankings heading to Western Australia, only 410 points shy of the joint leaders, Simmers and Bryan.

Caroline Marks (+710)

The year has remained challenging for Caroline Marks by her standards, progressing to only one final all season. She stood up and made her final appearance at the MEO Rip Curl Pro count, winning the tournament, edging Gabriela Bryan for the title. The 2023 WSL Women’s Championship Tour Champion paddles out at Margaret River off the back of three consecutive round of 16 exits.

Tyler Wright (+747)

Tyler Wright rode the wave of success early in 2025, triumphing in the season opener at the Banzai Pipeline. Wright toppled the current joint series leader, Simmers, in a low-scoring affair to grab the first 10,000 points of the year. She takes off in Western Australia off the back of a final and semi-final appearance at this venue on her last two visits.

Expert Pick: Women’s WSL WA Margaret Beach Pro

Gabriela Bryan earns our backing as the expert pick for the women’s division at the Western Australia Margaret River Pro. The Hawaiian starts at +295 with a potential payout of $79.00 for a $20 stake.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Refer to your sportsbook’s eligibility requirements, terms, and conditions, or contact your state’s gaming commission to verify your state’s WSL betting legality. Most licensed betting platforms restrict access in prohibited states, saving you from the long confirmation process.

For the best WSL betting experience, select reputable, regulated sportsbooks like FanduelDraftKingsCaesars Sportsbook, and BetMGM. Check event schedules and relevant offers ahead of every WSL competition. Use Underdog Fantasy for Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) gaming.

The legal status of WSL betting differs from state to state. The lifting of the federal sports betting ban in 2018 (by the Supreme Court) gave states the independence to legalize sports betting. WSL betting is mostly legal in states with regulated sports betting and licensed sportsbooks like Colorado and New Jersey. Check your sportsbooks and state-specific regulations to confirm availability.

Common WSL betting options include outright winner bets, head-to-head matchups, and futures bets (predicting season champions). Most platforms also allow prop bets—for example, you can predict the highest wave score in a competition.

Yes. Betting platforms like FanDuel and BetMGM have live betting options. Their users can place bets during the WSL competition. For example, bettors can predict the next wave score, who will win the ongoing heat, or whether a competitor will achieve a given aggregate. Note that not all events may qualify for live betting. Check out your sportsbook live betting section for more.

Consider Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) if your state does not allow sports betting. Unlike traditional betting, DFS falls under a different regulatory framework, making it legal in several jurisdictions. DFS platforms like Underground Fantasy and DraftKings DFS are common in states where sports betting is illegal.
