Bacon replaces Madsen
Vermeer Motorsports will put Brady Bacon in the No. 55 car for the final 10 races of the Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing season, swapping him in for Kerry Madsen as the series enters its closing stretch. The change begins this weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway’s Hockett/McMillin Memorial.
Eighth-place battle
The driver change comes with the standings still in play, and Vermeer Motorsports is battling Buch Motorsports for eighth place. That position matters for more than pride. Eighth place is worth $100,000 more than ninth, and it also affects eligibility for the High Roller Club’s permanent card system. Those stakes give the move added weight as the season moves into its final 10 races. Team owner Tony Vermeer thanked Madsen for three seasons with the organization and said Bacon brings significant experience to the program.
Madsen’s season
Madsen’s time in the No. 55 produced steady results across the season. He posted 21 top-10 finishes in 44 events, along with six top-five finishes. He also reached the podium at Texas and picked up one win at Lucas Oil, giving the team several high points during his run in the car. Those numbers show why the season had value even as the team prepares for a new direction. Bacon is also set to race for Vermeer Motorsports at Kokomo, Eldora, Lakeside and Texas Motor Speedway. For Vermeer Motorsports, the move closes one chapter with Madsen and opens another with Bacon while the season is still alive and the standings still have something to settle.
