Herbst leaves 23XI for multi-year Legacy Motor Club deal

Herbst joins Legacy
Riley Herbst has a new Cup Series home. Legacy Motor Club signed the 23XI Racing driver to a multi-year deal, and he will move to the organization for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season in the No. 84 Toyota Camry XSE. The move keeps Herbst in Toyota equipment before he shifts to Legacy, and it gives the team another full-time entry for its Cup program. Legacy plans to field a third full-time car in 2027 with a charter it acquired from Rick Ware Racing.
The sponsorship package also stays strong behind the wheel. Monster Energy will remain Herbst’s primary sponsor in 2027, and Bel U.S. brands GoGo squeeZ and The Laughing Cow will also sponsor him. Erik Jones is scheduled to remain in the No. 43, while Herbst is set for the No. 84 and the third entry is set to join the group in 2027.
Herbst leaves 23XI
Herbst’s move closes the book on his run at 23XI Racing after two full Cup Series seasons. He previously drove the No. 35 Toyota Camry there, and his results this year include three top-10 finishes. Through the first 26 races of the 2026 season, those finishes include eighth-place runs in the Daytona 500 and the Anduril 250 at the San Diego Street Course.
Herbst said the move gives him “another chance to learn and grow in the Cup Series.” Jimmie Johnson, who leads the Legacy effort, called the move “a natural fit.” Herbst will make his Legacy Motor Club debut at Daytona International Speedway in 2027.
Legacy lineup
Legacy Motor Club moved quickly to secure Herbst after it announced that John Hunter Nemechek would not return to the No. 42 car next season. The Herbst signing came less than 24 hours later. With Jones set in the No. 43 and Herbst lined up for the No. 84, Legacy will have a third full-time Cup entry in 2027 using the charter acquired from Rick Ware Racing.
For Herbst, the deal brings a new number and a new team as he moves from 23XI to Legacy for 2027.
