Allgaier Leads NASCAR Chase Into Darlington After Six-Win Regular Season

Allgaier leads Chase
JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier goes into the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase as the No. 1 seed, with a 25-point cushion over teammate Carson Kvapil. The 12-driver, nine-race postseason opens Saturday night at Darlington Raceway with the Fleetio 200, and it will be the first Darlington race run under the lights in the series. Allgaier led the series with six victories in the regular season and backed that up with wins at Darlington, Phoenix and Martinsville.
Kvapil gives JR Motorsports another strong threat. He won back-to-back races at Indianapolis and Iowa and enters as Allgaier’s biggest threat. The reset to 25 points leaves the top two teammates linked at the front of the standings, with Allgaier holding the lead and Kvapil right behind him. The timing matters, too. Darlington opens the Chase on one of the sport’s toughest tracks, and Allgaier already has a win there this season. Love, Caruth chase
Jesse Love begins the Chase as the defending O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion, but he arrives without a win in 24 starts. Love drives the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet and is trying to hold off the pressure that comes with a title defense. He is not alone in that pursuit. Brandon Jones and Austin Hill are also chasing their first O’Reilly Auto Parts Series title, which adds another layer to a field that already has a clear top seed. Rookie Corey Day enters the Chase as the No. 7 seed, while Sheldon Creed, Sammy Smith, Parker Retzlaff, Sam Mayer and Taylor Gray round out the rest of the 12-driver group. Rajah Caruth earned the final berth at Daytona and now takes his shot in the Chase from 80 points behind Allgaier. Caruth will drive the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet full-time with crew chief Mardy Lindley. His path is the steepest in the field because of the points gap, but the Chase format still gives him a chance to gain ground with a strong run at Darlington and beyond. Cup title battle
The NASCAR Cup Series Chase adds another championship race to the sport’s postseason picture. Denny Hamlin is the top seed in that field and is trying to win his first Cup Series championship in his 21st season. That gives the Cup race its own clear headline, one built around a veteran driver still chasing the one title missing from his resume. Hamlin’s position at the top of the seeding puts him in the same pressure zone that Allgaier faces in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, where every result can shape the path ahead. The difference is that Hamlin has been at this for 21 seasons and now has another direct chance to close the gap.
Joey Logano is aiming for a fourth Cup Series title, which gives the championship fight a proven winner. Bubba Wallace, William Byron, Ryan Preece and Chase Briscoe are also among the title contenders, and that group brings a mix of experience, speed and different career stages into the Chase.
