Homestead title races
Homestead will carry NASCAR’s championship weekend again this weekend, putting the Truck Series, the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and the Cup Series title races back at the same track for the first time since 2019.
Homestead had hosted the NASCAR season finale for the longest consecutive run any track has ever held for the Cup Series finale, before Phoenix took over. The track also has gone 19 months without a NASCAR race, so the weekend brings the series back to a venue that has been waiting for another turn in the spotlight. That gives the event a mix of nostalgia and urgency, with championship stakes layered on top of a long-awaited homecoming.
Track upgrades
Track president Guillermo Santa Cruz said the facility has undergone a significant overhaul since NASCAR announced the return. The changes include upgraded signage, an expanded fan zone, renovated suites and a new traffic plan.
The track’s new look also includes a large Romero Britto mural, and Britto designed the trophy for Sunday’s Cup Series title race. Santa Cruz said fans should arrive early for the flyover and pre-race festivities, and he expects the weekend to feel like a festival. That fits the setting. Homestead is not just hosting races again. It is staging a full championship showcase around them.
Championship scenarios
The title picture is clear in each series, and the pressure is different in every one of them. Kyle Larson leads the Cup Series by 67 points and needs nine points at Homestead to clinch his third Cup title. Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin both must win and collect enough stage points to stay in the championship hunt. In the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, Justin Allgaier leads by 22 points and can secure his second championship by scoring 54 points, regardless of what the other contenders do. The Craftsman Truck Series title will be decided Friday between Kaden Honeycutt and Layne Riggs.
The schedule gives each series its own spotlight. Craftsman Truck Series qualifying is Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET on FS2, with Matt Crafton first in line, before the championship race at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1. O’Reilly Auto Parts Series qualifying follows Saturday at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN Unlimited, led by Preston Pardus, then the title race at 5 p.m. ET on The CW. Cup Series single-car qualifying is Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET on truTV, with Casey Mears first in line, and the Cup championship race closes the weekend Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on NBC and streams on HBO Max.
