By mid‑morning officials reported temperatures around 30°C and said the asphalt was practically dry in places, but they cautioned that an adverse forecast could still compromise the weekend and that drainage and safety conditions must be assessed before any schedule changes. Event organizers stressed they were not discussing cancellation and pledged to do everything possible to stage the Grand Prix, but acknowledged that localized flooding, damage to access routes and the ongoing forecast left the weekend’s staging uncertain.
The incident underlined the tight turnaround and high stakes involved in returning MotoGP to Brazil after more than three decades, as teams and organizers worked against time to restore the circuit ahead of round two of the season.
Misano test clears Crutchlow for short-term LCR Honda return
Cal Crutchlow will return to MotoGP at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello as LCR/Honda’s replacement for Johann Zarco, the team confirmed after a Misano test cleared the 40-year-old British rider to race. Zarco was ruled out after a heavy crash in Catalunya/Barcelona that left him with significant knee and ankle injuries and awaiting surgery, a situation LCR described as likely long-term. The move preserves LCR/Honda’s entry while Zarco recovers and addresses an immediate personnel need for the team.
Crutchlow took part in a one-off private test at Misano to assess his physical condition and was given the green light to step into Zarco’s seat for the Mugello round. The Mugello start will be his first MotoGP race since a wildcard outing at the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix and will mark his 180th premier-class start. LCR team principal Lucio Cecchinello had said he wanted to field both LCR bikes at Mugello, and Diogo Moreira currently remains the only fit full-time LCR rider.
The short-term signing follows limited replacement options in the paddock. LCR’s regular test rider Takaaki Nakagami is occupied developing Honda’s 2027 850cc package and is unlikely to be available, and other potential stand-ins such as Aleix Espargaro remain in recovery. Crutchlow previously raced for LCR from 2015 to 2020, won three premier-class Grands Prix and achieved 19 podiums, then moved into a Yamaha test and reserve role with sporadic appearances through 2023. LCR and Honda framed Crutchlow’s return as a temporary solution while Zarco’s medical situation and the timing of any surgery remain unresolved.
Vinales misses Aragon as Tech3 recalls Espargaro
Maverick Vinales will miss the Aragon MotoGP round as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury, with Tech3 KTM again calling on Pol Espargaro as his replacement. Tech3 said the decision to sideline Vinales was made jointly by the rider, KTM and the team, and team manager Nicolas Goyon said the priority was to give him the time he needs to recover properly.
Vinales has not raced since MotoGP returned from the summer break and has been dealing with the lingering shoulder problem since a crash at Sachsenring in 2025. Summer testing also found a small tear in the infraspinatus muscle. Tech3 said there was no definite return date, although it is targeting the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano on Sept. 11-13, and Sky Italia reported that Vinales is trying conservative therapy rather than surgery, which would sideline him for the rest of the season.
Espargaro stepped in for Vinales at Aragon after also replacing him at the British Grand Prix, where he finished 13th. He said a return at Aragon should feel better as he regained confidence. Vinales’ long-term future in MotoGP remains uncertain, with Tech3 and Vinales already set to part ways after 2026 and his prospects for 2027 still unsettled.
