Mir, Marini declared fit for Malaysian Grand Prix

Mir returns fit

Honda HRC Castrol riders Joan Mir and Luca Marini were both declared fit in Sepang, and that cleared the way for both to return for the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia. For Mir, the clearance ended a stretch of missed races that began after he fell ill following the San Marino Grand Prix weekend. He sat out the Austrian, Japanese, Indonesian and Australian MotoGP rounds as the illness caused vision problems and fatigue. Mir said he noticed a quick change after treatment with Charte. “I saw immediate improvement after treatment with Charte,” he said. He also said he was glad to be back, even if he still had doubts about how he would feel once he got back into race pace. “It hasn’t been an easy period,” Mir said. He added that doctors had cleared him to race after some recent riding, which gave him the green light to rejoin the grid.

Marini restores Honda

Marini’s return carries a different kind of weight for Honda. He had taken part in first practice at Phillip Island before a virus kept him out of the rest of that weekend, and he missed last week’s race before returning for Malaysia. His clearance restored Honda HRC Castrol’s full MotoGP lineup for the Malaysian Grand Prix. For Marini, the comeback ends a short spell on the sideline after illness.

Honda regains full strength

Mir’s return also comes with a reminder of how tough his season has been when he has been on track. He has crashed out of nine of his 14 full-distance races so far this season. The illness also meant he missed four grands prix, including the Austrian, Japanese, Indonesian and Australian rounds. The focus now shifts to how his body responds after treatment and recent riding, while Marini settles back in after missing part of the Phillip Island weekend.
