McLaren driver Lando Norris eyes career-long stay, calls team family

NXTbets Pro | Published On: July 2, 2026

McLaren future

Lando Norris sees his future in one place. He said he is deeply, fully and heavily committed to McLaren and wants to stay with the team forever. Norris described McLaren as his family and said he could spend his entire Formula 1 career there. He also made clear that any departure sits far down the road. A move to another team, he said, is unlikely in the near future. He added that only one other Formula 1 team might draw his interest someday, though he did not name it. Norris signed his current contract in 2024 and said it still has several years left. The message was plain. He wants to build the rest of his career around McLaren and keep that relationship intact for as long as he races.

McLaren history

Norris’s bond with McLaren goes back a long way. He joined the team’s Young Driver Programme in 2017 and moved into Formula 1 with McLaren in 2019. That path gave him a direct line from prospect to front-line driver, and he has stayed on it ever since. He said he likes the people around him and wants to keep winning with them, which fits the way he has talked about the team throughout his rise. Norris also revealed that Ferrari was a serious option a few years ago, but he chose to remain with McLaren instead. That decision now frames the career he has built. He is not speaking like a driver looking for a reset or a fresh start elsewhere. He is speaking like someone who sees McLaren as the right long-term home and believes the partnership still has room to grow.

McLaren success

The results back up Norris’s loyalty. He has delivered 11 wins, 16 pole positions and 46 podiums for McLaren, a return that places him among the team’s most productive drivers in modern Formula 1. He also helped McLaren win the Constructors’ Championship in 2024 and 2025, giving the team back-to-back titles and strengthening the case for staying put. Norris said his motivation and hunger to win have not changed, even with McLaren’s reliability issues. He described those problems as dreadful and terrible, but he said the team’s pace remains strong. That matters to him. Norris said his success has made him more determined to keep winning, and that mindset explains why he talks about McLaren with such conviction. He wants the people, the pace and the chance to keep adding to a record that already includes wins, poles, podiums and championships.
