McLaren’s Norris, Piastri collided on final lap of Singapore sprint

NXTbets Pro | Published On: October 10, 2026

McLaren qualifying pace

McLaren left Singapore Sprint Qualifying with both cars inside the top five, and Oscar Piastri edged Lando Norris in the fight for track position. Piastri qualified fourth, Norris fifth and the Australian beat his teammate by 0.133 seconds in the final segment. Norris briefly moved to the top of the order in SQ3 before late runs from Ferrari and Red Bull pushed him back. Piastri said McLaren had done “more or less what we could’ve done.” He also said the car felt better on soft tires than on mediums and called the Marina Bay circuit “very tricky.”

Norris reaction

Norris said McLaren made progress after fixing a straight-line speed issue. He said he did not put together a “good enough” effort and added that he had “no excuse.”

Turn 5 collision

The sprint race turned messy for McLaren on the final lap when Norris and Piastri came together under investigation after contact at Turn 5. Norris tried to dive inside Piastri while the two were running behind Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari, and the McLaren cars touched at the apex. Both drivers spun in the incident, and Piastri hit the outside barrier. Norris kept going and finished eighth, then apologized over the radio after the crash. He later said he thought the move was viable. Piastri said he was not overly bothered by the clash because it only affected fourth and fifth place in a sprint. The sequence capped a day for McLaren that started with qualifying pace and ended with its two drivers colliding on the final lap.
