Pedro Acosta delivered KTM home win at Austrian GP

Acosta’s Austrian breakthrough
At the Red Bull Ring, Acosta claimed his first MotoGP victory. He was fastest in Friday practice, then qualified third for the Austrian Grand Prix. He crashed out of the sprint race while leading, then took control of the main event with a cleaner result. Once the grand prix settled in, Acosta moved to the front on lap 9 and kept the lead to the finish. The ride gave KTM a home victory in Austria and ended the factory’s MotoGP winless run that stretched back to Miguel Oliveira‘s 2022 Thai Grand Prix.
Martin’s sprint statement
Jorge Martin owned the other headline result from the Austrian weekend before the grand prix began. He took pole position, then backed it up by winning the sprint race. Martin had the speed to lead the shorter race, while Acosta had the pace to recover from his sprint crash before the grand prix reset the order.
Grand Prix finish
The grand prix turned into Acosta’s race once he took command on lap 9. From there, he protected the lead to the finish, with Martin the closest pursuer in second. Marco Bezzecchi took third, giving him a podium spot. Ai Ogura finished fourth after returning from injury. Marc Marquez came home fifth after dealing with front-brake problems, and Brad Binder placed sixth for his best result of the season. Acosta produced the win, Martin stayed in the fight for second and the riders behind them filled out the top six. Martin left the weekend with a 12-point lead over Marquez, who dropped to second in the standings. That margin gave Martin an edge after a weekend that also gave Acosta his first MotoGP win and KTM a home triumph.
