Acosta’s breakthrough win
Pedro Acosta won the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring for his first MotoGP victory and turned the weekend into a breakthrough in front of Red Bull KTM’s home crowd. He did it after crashing out of Saturday’s sprint while leading, then coming back on race day with a controlled ride over 28 laps. Acosta took the lead from Jorge Martin on lap 9 and held it to the finish, crossing the line 1.017 seconds clear. The win gave Acosta a first premier-class triumph after 15 previous podiums in MotoGP, a mark that showed how often he had been close before finally getting the result. It also gave KTM a big home success. Acosta earned the win once he moved to the front.
Martin and Marquez battle
Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi traded the lead early for Aprilia before Acosta settled the fight at the front. Martin had already set up the race by taking pole position, edging Marc Marquez by 0.015 seconds and Acosta by 0.071 seconds. Martin and Bezzecchi spent the early laps swapping the lead, but Acosta closed the door on that duel when he moved ahead on lap 9. From there, he controlled the race to the finish and kept Martin behind him for the rest of the distance. Bezzecchi finished third, Ai Ogura came home fourth, Marquez finished fifth and Brad Binder was sixth. Marquez’s race had its own problems. He said front-brake issues sent him wide at Turn 1 and made him briefly think he might have to retire before he regrouped and fought back to fifth. That recovery kept him in fifth after brake trouble threatened to end his race early.
Standings after Austria
The Austrian Grand Prix also tightened and clarified the championship picture at the same time. Martin left Austria with a 12-point lead over Marquez in the standings after a weekend that started with pole and ended with second place. Bezzecchi remained in the hunt, but he trailed Martin by 42 points. Acosta’s first MotoGP win pushed him up to fourth in the standings, 72 points behind Martin. Acosta had already stacked up 15 premier-class podiums, and this win moved him into fourth in the title order. Aprilia left with a podium from Bezzecchi and a runner-up finish from Martin. Marquez’s fifth-place recovery kept him close in the points battle after brake trouble threatened to end his race early. Binder’s sixth-place finish added a top-six result behind the leaders. Acosta moved up, Martin stayed in front and Marquez remained the closest challenger after Austria.
