Peterson Racing split
Peterson Racing and Austin Green parted ways, and the team addressed the split in its first public social media statement after ending the relationship. The organization said it supports Green after four seasons together. It also apologized for social media exchanges it said added to the tension around his departure. Peterson Racing condemned personal attacks on Green and others and said it should have handled criticism more professionally. The team said it is reviewing its social media moderation practices, including blocked accounts.
Green’s 2026 season
Green began 2026 as Peterson Racing’s full-time No. 87 Chevrolet driver, but the team’s lineup changes for Charlotte, Phoenix and Talladega disrupted those plans. Peterson Racing said those changes altered the shape of Green’s full-time season. After the first 16 races, the team brought in Nick Sanchez, and Green stayed with the organization after the midseason change. He then ran a three-race stint to finish the season at Charlotte, Phoenix and Talladega. Green’s final start came at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where he finished 23rd. That late-season run closed out his time in the car after a year that started with a full-time role and ended with a shorter stretch behind the wheel. The sequence also marked the end of his partnership with the organization.
Green’s next move
Green now turns to a new opportunity. He is set to debut in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Talladega Friday for Spire Motorsports. The move gives him a different path. His first Truck Series start comes as his former team moves ahead with its own plans. Peterson Racing is planning a two-car O’Reilly Auto Parts Series effort in 2027 with Lee Pulliam and Harrison Burton. That project points to a new direction for the organization and a different lineup structure for the future. Green leaves after a season that changed along the way, and Peterson Racing moves toward a reshaped program for the next chapter.
