Phillip Island weather
Sunday’s track action at Phillip Island was delayed after poor visibility kept the medical helicopter from flying, forcing officials to push back the day’s program for Moto3, Moto2 and the main Australian MotoGP race. The morning schedule was set to begin with MotoGP warm-up at 9:40 a.m. AEDT, followed by Moto3 at 11 a.m., Moto2 at 12:15 p.m. and the featured race at 2 p.m. MotoGP officials expected conditions to improve around 11 a.m. local time, but the disruption came as the circuit dealt with the worst weather of the weekend.
MotoGP schedule delay
Sunday’s forecast called for 15 to 35 mm of rain, strong winds and cool temperatures, and the weather also forced changes outside the Grand Prix program. The third Australian Superbike Championship race, which was scheduled for 9 a.m. AEDT, was abandoned because of inclement weather. That left Phillip Island dealing with a difficult opening to race day, with visibility and severe conditions combining to interrupt the full schedule.
